About Dream Africa
Dream Africa Volunteer Service was established as Non-Government/Non-Profit organization to promote the welfare of the vulnerable in society especially women and children; and to encourage them to participate in processes which enhance their equality, self-reliance and long term sustainable development. It aims to fight poverty and exclusion; strengthen the capacity of disadvantaged communities; support initiative for peace, human rights and equity and mobilize resources.
The organization was founded by young graduate women of various fields of development studies who have passion for community development; and are committed to contributing their skills and experience to projects that enrich the lives of people in deprived communities. They are locals born and raised in the various regions who understand the culture as well as structures in the region. They know which projects will have maximum positive impact, respecting the dignity and long-term needs of everyone involved.
We collaborate through local, regional, national and global partnerships, working with the private sector, international institutions and other organizations who share our goals. Our programs sensitizes women and girls on the values of teamwork, self-reliance and resilience; has a multiplier effect on their health, education and leadership development; contributes to self-esteem, builds social connections, and challenges harmful gender norms. We focus on significantly advancing gender equality by tackling the root causes of discrimination.
DAVS mission recognizes that sustainable development, which balances economic development, social cohesion and environment protection, is fundamental to the objective of lasting poverty reduction. DAVS also seeks to improve the living conditions of women and children by enhancing sustainable development and use of natural resources in a participatory, rational, equitable and ethical way for the benefit of local communities.
KEY ACTIVITIES TO ACHIEVE ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS
DAVS works within rural communities and across the country areas to help improve the well-being of young people and women to overcome poverty. We do this through long-term projects aimed at allowing communities to manage and sustain their own development. DAVS works to identify each community’s assets and needs; along with the underlying causes of poverty and vulnerability, by building partnerships with community groups, and government bodies.
It is an essential element of DAVS work. It is about challenging and changing the policies, systems, structures, practices and attitudes that make it difficult for vulnerable children, young people, women and their families to escape living in poverty. DAVS advocates at the local, national, regional and global levels, informed by our experience working with communities.
