Computer Literacy Program
Our computer training program seeks to provide basic computer skills to children living in small towns and rural communities in Ghana. The government of Ghana has recently introduced Information Communication Technology (ICT) as part of the educational syllabus to enable school children gain practical knowledge before graduation. The program will provide school children with theory and practical lessons in ICT. This policy has been hindered by lack of teachers or instructors to teach the subject. The volunteer project allows volunteers to help local children develop their computer skills. Volunteers can make valuable contribution by teaching basic computer skills which not only allow the children access the internet, but also help their employment prospects. The training will be in any of the following areas: Internet Orientation (Teaching students how to register on social networks, research etc.), Ms. Word, Ms. Excel (spread sheet), Ms. Access, Ms. Power Point, MS Front page, Publisher, Adobe Page maker, Coral Draw, Adobe Photo shop, typing etc. This is to enable them acquire employable skills to live dignified lives for personal and national development. Volunteer participants are placed at our training center or teach at one of our local partner schools or at our DAVS Computer Training Center. Volunteers who are placed in a partner school are supposed to assist the local teacher in the classroom or prepare lesson notes.
PROJECT GUIDELINES
Volunteers are required to prepare different methods of teaching or provide tutorials in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft to the understanding of the students. Volunteers must prepare both practical and theory lessons for students. The students who participate in the project are mostly beginners so there is the need for patience and attention to students. The language of tutorials is English.
Volunteers are required to refresh their memory or practice all Basic Microsoft Software programs stated above to enable them contribute effectively to the computer literacy project. At the end of the training program, we expect that students will be able to acquire the necessary basic computer skills. There will be an examination for all students after the program to evaluate their performance or skills.
